Enemy Lines Blog Tour & Review

Enemy Lines

by Juliette Michaels

Enemy Lines is the story of Rebel Leader Rachel Lawton and Sovereignty Agent Noah Connor struggling to survive in a dystopian America. Rachel is being set up for a traitor's fall while Noah has been sent in to assure her assassination. Can Rachel stop Noah from trading intelligence that will affect thousands of lives? When Noah starts to fall in love, will he go through with the assassination or put other lives at risk by letting Rachel live?

My Review:
The world is a different place in Enemy Lines. After "The Great War" the Sovereignty is in charge and have divided the US into five territories where people are separated from their families and children are taken from parents. They are told what to watch, listen to and even eat. Their is a rebel force trying to re-take the territories and they are succeeding.

Rachel Lawton has made a name for herself in the rebel force and has just been transferred to Old Manhattan to help retake the Mid-West Territory. Unfortunately she doesn't trust her commanding officer Webb and if that wasn't enough she now has to escort the Sovereign "traitor" Noah Connor.

Noah has been sent to kill Rachel.  She is too dangerous to the Sovereignty, she is a natural leader and an excellent soldier. She has helped the rebels to too many victories and must be taken out. Noah has been living the last four years of his life in the hope that he can see his sister again. He knows that if he doesn't do his job she will be killed.

Rachel and Noah's relationship is off to a rocky start to say the least. Rachel is rude and condescending to Noah and with good reason. She is being set up to be the traitor. Webb has ordered her to escort Noah and give him a map of the Old Manhattan settlement which he is supposed to send back to his superiors. When they leave on their mission Webb has set it up so Rachel takes the fall for the troops being led into an ambush.

Noah saves Rachel's life and the two make their way out of the area and start to get closer. Can Rachel actually trust Noah and the feelings she is suddenly having?

Enemy Lines starts out a little slow. The time it takes to tell us about the war and what has happened after drags. Rachel is a little hard to like in the beginning she is so cool. It's not until we get a look at her through Noah's eyes that we see her humanity. Noah is just as driven as Rachel but for different reasons, he is trying to protect his sister. He really does not like being a Sovereign agent and would change things if he could.  He is the more sympathetic character out of the two.

The relationship between them is quick in building there is heat there.  Both are virgins but Noah seems to know what he is doing which didn't really make sense to me. We've all been there for the fumbling of the first time but that didn't happen with these two.  I enjoyed reading Enemy Lines although I am hoping since I received a ARC that the formatting issues will be solved when it is actually released, they were a little distracting.

3.5 out of 5 stars!

Tommy Reed’s world shifted the night he found Holly Richards lying in a pool of blood on the ground. For reasons he can’t explain, he feels the need to protect Holly from her own past. In the process, he’s hoping to also teach her that there is more to D/s than releasing pent up emotions.  Life isn’t easy for the former-junkie and the cop. Some of those closest to Tommy are less than thrilled with his devotion to Holly. Those who pressured Holly into her former life are worried she’ll share what she knows. Is there any way for both of them to come away from the situation unscathed?
Tommy Excerpt
I don’t know why I’m here. I walk into her room with a cup of coffee and a bagel every day and sit with her until late at night. The nurses think I’m the compassionate boyfriend, not willing to leave her side. The truth is, I’m no one to her. “Holly, I don’t know if you can hear me,” I whisper in her ear, wrapping my hand around her fingers. “You need to wake up. Tasha’s starting to think you’re slipping away but I told her she’s wrong.” There’s no response. There hasn’t been for the past two weeks and I’m starting to worry there never will be. The first ten days, they kept her in a medically-induced coma so she wouldn’t suffer from the drug withdrawal. They started easing her off the medication a few days ago and she should be awake by now. The doctors are now classifying her as being in a “vegetative state” because she’s breathing on her own. If only she would give us some sign that she’s still in there… I reach for bottle of lotion beside the bed. Every day, I massage her hands and arms, hoping that my touch will cause her to open her eyes and say something. My fingers trace the outline of every flower inked from just below her elbow up to her shoulder. Her half-sleeve gives her a hard exterior from a distance, but upon closer inspection, the tattoos form a magnificently detailed garden on her pale skin. As I take her hand in mine, preparing to work the lotion into her fingers, I feel her jerk away from me. Startled, I look to the head of the bed and see her eyes open, staring at me. “Hey, sleepy,” I say, my throat dry and raspy from the recycled air in the hospital. “You had us scared for a while.”

Cover Reveal - Falling For Us by Anne Connoly

Falling for Grace, book two in the Four Winds series by Anne Conley

Release date:  October 15, 2013

Genre:  Paranormal Romance

Blurb:

Rafael is one of God’s Four Winds, the Archangel of Healing.  He has answered the countless prayers for healing of loved ones, wondering what it was about the emotion that made humans willing to sacrifice so much.

Grace is a lifeguard who has been on Rafe’s radar since she lost a little boy three years ago.  What she doesn’t realize is the green haze that comes over her during a rescue is actually a diving presence who’s about to give up his celestial body to become a very real entity in her life.

While Grace is trying to overcome her own demon, Rafe is discovering his own sexuality, but there’s a darker presence making himself known.  The Deceiver wants what Rafe is getting, and he’ll do whatever it takes to have her.

Excerpt from Falling for Grace:

Rafe was in the bathroom, brushing his teeth the next morning, reflecting on his corporeal body.
Teeth brushing.  That wasn't a normal thing for him.  Neither was showering.  Or shaving.
Usually, his work was done on a different realm.  He traveled in the cosmic soup, visiting people in their dreams, subconsciously, or their conscious minds.  He became a temporary part of their psyche.  He dropped in on surgeons during surgery, to help guide shaky, sleep-deprived hands.  Rafe had passed out ideas to the stumped healers, in a sudden flash of brilliance.  He visited dreams.  He was responsible for many 'Eureka!' moments.
Rarely, had he come to earth in a human body.  He'd been visiting Grace during saves for the past three years in her mind, allowing her to do her job the way she had been trained to do, only providing moral support.  He hadn't had to step in with her, yet.
Head-hopping was one of his many talents.  He had the ability to jump inside of another person's head and sense what they were thinking.  He didn't get clear visions, only vague perceptions.  As tempting as it was to be inside her mind all the time, he hadn't done it to Grace.
                Much.
He enjoyed having a body.  It felt good.  He stood in front of the mirror, a towel wrapped around his waist, sensing his body.  He could feel the muscles in his arm and shoulder flex as he brushed, enjoyed the feel of the bristles against his teeth and tongue.  He flexed his toes against the bathmat, scrunching them into the thick pile, feeling his calves bunch.  He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, delighted at the various ways that the human body secreted by-products.  Marvelous.
The delight in feeling himself was interrupted by Grace opening the bathroom door, surprising him.  He turned to her, and gaped, undone by what he saw.
She was standing there, bleary-eyed, wearing nothing but a knit camisole and a pair of the tiniest bikini panties he'd ever seen on a woman in the flesh.  He was frozen, eyes wide, toothbrush in his mouth, toothpaste foaming and dripping, looking like a rabid dog.  He was aware of his groin muscles tightening, his testicles shrinking abruptly.
Grace was frozen too.  He saw her jaw drop, framing her wide luscious mouth in a perfect O.  Her blue eyes widened, and an attractive blush crawled up her chest to her cheeks.  Her wide eyes traveled from his face down his torso, to the towel wrapped around his waist before dropping to her feet, where they began the climb up her own body.
She snapped her mouth shut, and she began to sputter as realization dawned.
"I-I'm so sorry.  I should have knocked."  Her hands went to cover herself.  "I'm not used to a man living here."  Turning, she tossed over her shoulder as she darted out of the bathroom, "I'll just use the other one!"
Chuckling to himself, Rafe looked down, noticing his erection, making a tent out of his towel.  The tightness in his groin should have been a give away, but he'd been so taken aback by her appearance in the doorway that he hadn't taken in the implications of his blood flow altering its course from his testicles to other places.
Spitting out the toothpaste and rinsing his mouth, Rafe whistled as he went into his room to dress for the day.  It would be exciting, he was sure.

Bio:

You would think that as an aspiring writer I could come up with something witty or interesting to say about myself. But the truth is, I mostly enjoy telling stories.

It's through stories that we learn the world, learn about our history or traditions, and in doing that we learn about ourselves.

Ever since I was a very young child, my only dream was to become an author one day. To touch people with my words. Hopefully entertain them, maybe even give them something to think about. I use my books to reach people I normally would never reach. The internet has given us a lot of tools to spread the written word now more than ever.

In my life, I've done many things, from supervising sales for big, retail giants, to even being a deputy sheriff. You would think a person who had been shot at for a living would be brave enough to write a biography about themselves. Unfortunately no.

I might be a writer right now, but one day I hope to be able to share my stories and experiences with many people. To be able to expand my globe of knowledge and share ideas with others, that's the dream and goal.

NEVER FORGET 9/11

NEVER FORGET!!!

I was pregnant with Anna and as I was driving to work looking at Manhattan. I could see the smoke from the first plane pouring out of Building 2. At that point everyone thought it was a small tourist plane, that's what the radio was saying. I could see the buildings from the parking lot at work. I watched the second plane hit. My co-workers took me inside our building because they were worried about how upset I was and if it was good for the baby. Our boss didn't let us go home that day and it is what probably kept me sane. The images I saw on the TV when I finally got home were horrific. You couldn't get through to anyone via cell phone so I really had not talked to anyone that day. I had to call my grandmother and assure her I was fine and then call my mom. When people from other parts of the country dismiss this day I get angry. Those terrorists took something from me and everyone else in this area that day. We were naive, we were arrogant, we felt safe. But they gave us something too. The pride that we as Americans could come together and help each other - we in the NYC metro area will NEVER FORGET!!! Will you?
