REVIEW
Hugh is a premier lion shifter, that means that he has a great deal of power and needs help containing it. For the past ten years his Siphon has been standing just behind him taking the excess energy. One night Hugh's life flashes before his eyes, his Siphon tried to kill himself and if he had succeeded Hugh's life would also be over. He has to get to the bottom of the Siphon's pain. When Hugh realizes that he doesn't even know the Siphon's name he sees that he's been looking out for all his pack members but the one closest to him.
Johnnie has never had a friend. He's been sequestered since birth to keep him safe, then when his pack needed to join another he was given to Hugh as their tribute to their new leader. For a decade Johnnie has followed Hugh, falling deeper and deeper in love with the man he shares a house with, but Hugh does not acknowledge Johnnie, doesn't even know his name. Johnnie cannot live in the shadows anymore but he cannot seem to kill himself, he self heals any cuts he inflicts.
When Hugh finally starts to get to know Johnnie, he begins to understand just how badly Johnnie has been treated his whole life. Now Hugh must make his pack realize that the Siphon is a man and just as deserving of notice. While he brings this about Hugh starts to have feelings for Johnnie he's never had for another person. Can fate really have brought him his mate?
I totally enjoyed this story! Johnnie is such a sweet boy and deserves the love he finds in Hugh. Hugh is a great leader who finally finds a peaceful place with Johnnie. They face more than just their past though and the twist makes the story more interesting. CC has done it again!

Cardeno C. - CC to friends - is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few "awwws" into a reader's day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno's stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever-after sunset.
Cardeno's Home, Family, and Mates series have received awards from Love Romances and More Golden Roses, Rainbow Awards, the Goodreads M/M Romance Group, and various reviewers. But even more special to CC are heartfelt reactions from readers, like, "You bring joy and love and make it part of the every day."
